• Shelf Life •

These fever fun moments,
music loud in the living room,
roommates playing video games,
but the cards are
all on the table.
We hold back fears
in these precious moments
that taste of Calico rum
dashed with too much hope
and just enough orange juice.
My favorite song comes on
as my belly is full of
delicious home-cooked dinner
and the new memories
we baked together.
I want to bottle up
these hours, and save them
for tomorrow, but these evenings
have a shelf life of
only till midnight, before
they become nothing more
than sweet remembrances
that expire by morning.
