A black oracle card with silver writing that depicts an abstract headstone and the words "the reaper". The card sits on a rock next to a black journal with a pen beside it. There are beginnings of autumn leaves on the ground beneath the rock.

The Reaper

I turn to the last page
to see if I can find
a verse…
to see if I can scrounge
up the last of the lost words
that got left behind
along the way.

Is there
still a story
here?

Or just the final
spread of empty lines
who hope they’ll
be filled with as much
meaning as all the
ones who came before them?

Is this ink,
dark and bleeding,
a reaper?
A harbinger
of the unknown
to come when
the paper runs out?

It might be one end,
but I chose to reject oblivion
and believe that
on the other side of the cover,
there patiently waits
the dawning of
another story…
